(12) Rain and freezing temperatures
One of the weather conditions that sheep have a particularly difficult
time with is rain and freezing temperatures, or sleet. If their wool gets
saturated, and then freezes, they have no insulation from the cold. If you have a run-in to your barn for your flock, they may come in when it is very cold and starts to rain, but they won't always -- it depends upon the particular sheep and what else is going on. If you are expecting rain and freezing temperatures, sleet, or an ice storm, it may be better to bring them in to be safe. Make sure the shelter is reasonably clean and has good ventilation. |
